Day 1 – The Drive

Taking kids on a long drive can be a little anxiety inducing, especially when they haven’t been on a car ride of that particular length before. I am happy to say that with one minor hiccup, the drive was a complete success.

The hiccup (learn from me people) occurred when we had a preconceived notion of how far we wanted to drive before our first stop/break. That sounds well and good but it completely ignores other factors, like certain bodies needs for food. By the time I realized that I needed to “adjust” my timing, we had passed the last of the locations that we could get food and had entered about a 20 min. “no man’s land” portion of the drive. While 20 minutes is not a ridiculous amount of time, it is an ETERNITY when you have children whose behavior is devolving into savages in the back seat. Fortunately we were able to get to a food location and get everyone fed. Lesson learned: adjust timelines on the fly to address biological needs.

The remainder of the drive was uneventful. We arrived in Oakhurst around 5:15 and stopped at Round Table Pizza for dinner, then walked to Von’s to get some groceries to stock our cabin with.

Around 7:00pm we fell in love… with our cabin. Cute and perfect for our family. We are very excited to be spending our next 6 days here :-).
