Zip-Lining through the Monteverde Cloud Forest

  • by

I don’t know how much can be put into words about this experience… I have some video I will post when I am able, and some pictures too.

The day started with a drive up more rock roads to Selvatura Park in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. This was where we were to have our zip-lining and suspension bridge canopy tours. We were a little concerned for the kids at first… and they both admitted they were scared and nervous. Dylan was so small that he needed to zip-line each leg with a guide. Aidan was able to manage a couple legs on his own, but most legs were with a guide as well. That turned out to be great as they thoroughly enjoyed their guides who would spin them along the way as well as provide them the reassurance necessary to enjoy the ride.

It took a while to get to start, as we were at the end of the line of about 30 people. The initial platform (as were all the rest) was attached to a tree. There was about a 30 stair climb to reach it. At the end of the first few legs there was a line about six people deep on the platform for the next leg. That provided a short wait and I expected this to be the way each leg would go. Surprisingly, there were some legs where I was alone on the landing platform, so the guide disconnected me from one line, and immediately connected me to the next and off I went again. Total time spent on those platforms was about 10 seconds… no rest for the weary, but that made for a pretty incredible coupe legs. Some of the legs were short, some were long. Some we would be going what felt like 30-40mph!

Not all launch platforms were the landing platforms of the previous legs and there was a bit of hiking between platforms in some places. This was great because it gave us a chance to see the forest from below as  well.

The views were INCREDIBLE… words cannot express how awesome of an experience this was. I rented a helmet cam to video the entire view I had… this was important to me as I expected this to be something I wanted to view over and over again and not rely on my aging mind’s eye. As soon as we get back home, I will post that video. Until then, here are a couple others:
